Baked with Love

A Valentine’s Recipe for Concrete

Move over, chocolate cake. There’s a new mix in town!

Every love story starts in the kitchen, not with grand gestures, but with preparation.

Measuring, mixing, and paying attention to the details that matter.

At Anthony Concrete Design, working with concrete has always felt like baking, and during Valentine’s season, it feels a lot like telling a love story. One built on patience, chemistry, and showing up for the process, even when it takes time.

Every piece we make is a carefully mixed composition, designed with intent, poured with precision, and finished with care. From hearths and wall panels to kitchen islands and statement mantels, our work is shaped slowly and thoughtfully, never rushed. Like any good relationship, it’s built step by step.

This is our recipe, not for something sweet, but for something lasting. Architectural-grade concrete, baked with love.

Yields: One High-Performance
Concrete Form

Prep Time: Deep Design Sessions + Collaborative Conversations

Mix Time: ~40 minutes

Cure Time:  24-48 Hours

Tools of the (Concrete) Kitchen

Every love story has its constants. Ours look a lot like this.

Design Software – Our digital prep station, where forms take shape before concrete hits the mould!

Concrete Mixer – Essential for preparing consistent, blended batches.

Custom Moulds – Designed to capture edges, curves, and architectural intent.

Concrete Vibrator – Like tapping the cake tin, but for airless perfection.

Finishing Tools – Grinders, polishers, and sealers.

Media 10-2724B431-0FBB-48D9-AEEC-2AACBC8FCC14

We don’t just use equipment; we rely on it like chefs trust a favourite knife.

Every tool in our shop exists for one reason: to bring the material to its most beautiful, functional form.

Method:

1.The First Meeting

Before anything is mixed, there’s preparation.
Layouts, 3D visuals, colour and texture review and mix tests come first, not as a checklist, but as a conversation.

This is where we listen, ask questions, and begin to understand the project and the people behind it.

2. Chemistry

Then comes the mixing. Ratios matter, but so does feel. If the mixture is too dry, it becomes difficult to pour and increases the number of bug holes. If it is too wet, it loses strength.

This is where chemistry reveals itself, adjusted carefully, tested patiently, and refined until the balance feels right. Like any good relationship, it’s built on knowing when to add and when to hold back.

3. Commitment

The pour is done carefully and the team works quickly to avoid dry lines. The mix flows into the mould while it vibrates to release trapped air and prevent imperfections. This is the point where planning turns into action, where preparation gives way to commitment, and the piece begins to form.

4. Trust

Just like dough needs time to proof or custard requires time to set, concrete also demands patience. Unlike anything in the kitchen, concrete has its own unique process: it generates heat as it cures.

This slow, internal reaction occurs out of sight but is essential for the strength of the final product.

5. The Reveal

De-moulding is careful and deliberate, sometimes requiring a hammer, a drill, or even a crane. Once free, we wash, let it dry and seal. It’s in these final moments, handled with care, that the true character of the work is revealed.

A Valentine’s Season Ending

As Valentine’s season arrives, it feels like the right moment to slow down and appreciate the things we value most, the ones that aren’t rushed but shaped over time with care, patience, and intention until they quietly become part of everyday life.

That’s how we think about concrete, not as a moment or a gesture, but as something meant to stay, something made to be lived with and to grow more meaningful over time.

2026 Design Trends

The Forecast

It’s that time of year to explore the trends shaping the design landscape for 2026. Never rules, always inspiration and insights.
You should always feel empowered to express your style, regardless of what’s hot on the market.

That said, we’re excited to spotlight a few key movements that we, along with other industry voices, anticipate gaining momentum in the year ahead.
Here’s a closer look at these emerging trends and how they can be thoughtfully adapted to reflect your unique style.

1. Curves, Soft Lines & Architectural Detailing

Curves have been a growing trend over the last couple of years but this year more pronounced. Our curved concrete sinks, countertop profiles, hearths, and table bases exemplify this trend.

Each piece is custom-crafted, adding sculptural elegance to kitchens, bathrooms, and living spaces. While incorporating curvature in concrete can have its limitations, it’s a challenge we often embrace and work together to solve or propose alternative curved solutions for a design.

Beyond The Concrete

Straight lines and sharp angles will always be a standard starting point with design however, we are making way for more organic forms and gentle curves. Designers are exploring flowing shapes within floor plans, furniture details and finishes that bring comfort and visual interest.

Sofas with rounded edges and arched doorways reflect a growing trend in materials and design that can be seen in both residential and commercial projects. Incorporating curves into design is not about forcing every aspect of an interior to follow this trend; rather, it’s about subtly and tastefully hinting at it with intention.

2. Craftsmanship & Material Honesty

In 2026, design is about embracing the beauty of character-driven materials. There’s a growing desire for spaces that feel thoughtfully renewed yet rooted in time—interiors that balance refinement with a sense of history. Textured, handcrafted surfaces are taking precedence over slick, mass-produced finishes, reflecting a broader shift toward authenticity and longevity.

From distressed concrete to handwoven textiles, materials that reveal the human hand are defining this next chapter of design and decor. This movement is echoed in the rise of thrifting, restoration, and the reimagining of vintage pieces as meaningful elements within the home. Clients are increasingly drawn to products that carry charm and a story—valuing material honesty over perfection or novelty.

At Anthony Concrete Design, this philosophy is embedded in our approach. Our custom sinks, wall panels, and fireplace mantels feature nuanced textures and naturally occurring patinas, ensuring each piece carries its own identity from the moment it’s installed. Over time, these surfaces continue to evolve through everyday use similarly to soft leather, these subtle marks become part of the story—evidence of life well lived.

Complementing this shift are finishes such as plaster walls, limewash, rattan furnishings, ceramics, and carefully curated vintage elements, all of which have continued to gain momentum since 2024. Together, they reflect a collective move toward “honest” materials—surfaces that feel grounded, tactile, and enduring.

3. Bold Colours & Warm, Saturated Palettes

Cool greys and beiges are giving way to warmer, more expressive palettes. Olive greens, terracotta, sand, and clay tones are taking center stage in interiors, bringing depth and warmth back into living spaces. We’re also seeing continued momentum behind color-drenched rooms layered with wallpaper and patterned textiles.

With the growing demand for custom colours, we wanted to highlight this terracotta-inspired sink as a reminder that concrete can be both warm and vibrant. Saturated tones allow concrete to become a defining feature in kitchens and bathrooms. The return of colour in design feels like a collective shift away from the haze of builder greys and stark whites, homeowners are embracing personality, trusting their instincts, and choosing spaces that reflect who they are rather than what’s expected.

In an era increasingly defined by intentional design, character is no longer something to be hidden. It’s something to be celebrated.

4. Design Rooted in Nature & Longevity

Biophilic design continues to shape interiors, but in 2026 the emphasis is on meaningful integration. It’s no longer just about adding decorative plants—homeowners and designers alike are prioritizing natural textures, sustainably sourced materials, and functional indoor greenery that enhance both wellbeing and style.

As the desire to reconnect interiors with the natural world grows, biophilic design is appearing across both residential and commercial spaces. Rich textures, natural fibers, and earthy tones reinforce this focus on sustainable, comfortable living—particularly in urban environments where outdoor access may be limited. This trend signals a broader shift toward interiors that are not only visually compelling but also thoughtfully in tune with nature.

5. Functional Design That Lasts

Every designer understands the importance of functional design and how to thoughtfully apply it within a space. Recently, we’ve noticed homeowners sharing that same priority—seeking solutions where function seamlessly coexists with beauty and long-term durability, particularly in bathrooms.

We’re seeing more trade partners specify integrated sinks in place of traditional undermount options, allowing the sink and counter to read as one cohesive surface. At ACD, every sink we cast is fully custom, designed to be a signature element. From expansive primary baths to narrow powder rooms requiring a 10″ sink depth, our sinks are made specifically for you—without compromise.

In summary, the design landscape is defined by intention, authenticity, and a renewed connection to the natural world. From flowing curves and character-driven materials to warm, expressive palettes, functional solutions, and biophilic integration, these trends invite homeowners and designers alike to create spaces that are both beautiful and enduring.

At Anthony Concrete Design, we embrace this philosophy in every custom piece we craft, whether a sculptural sink, textured wall panel, or statement fireplace—ensuring each element reflects individuality, purpose, and timeless quality. Ultimately, the year ahead is less about following rules and more about designing spaces that celebrate personality, sustainability, and the thoughtful balance of form and function.

Friends, Food & a Fire Feature

A perfect fall escape from the hustle & bustle of everyday life

Tucked away in the rolling landscape of Dundas, Ontario, this backyard was designed to be more than a beautiful outdoor space; it’s a complete experience. Surrounded by lush greenery and backed by serene hiking trails, the setting feels private and peaceful, yet it’s built to host and impress.

Whether it’s a laid-back evening with family or a lively night with friends, this space was made for connection.

At the heart of the design is a fully sheltered entertainment area that seamlessly blends comfort, function, and style.

The linear fireplace anchors the space, framed in rich, textured concrete that complements the natural surroundings. Above it, a custom floating mantel adds a strong architectural gesture; sleek yet substantial, it grounds the television above and ties the composition together. This setup is designed for all-weather enjoyment.

Firelight flickers while the game plays on the big screen, and guests move easily between cozy seating and the bar-style countertop that stretches the length of the wall. Every detail invites conversation and relaxation; it’s a space that feels as good as it looks.

Every concrete element in this project was handcrafted to bring both durability and design precision. The fireplace surround and mantel shelf, finished in a distressed charcoal, showcase a refined industrial character; bold but warm, echoing the tones of the natural landscape. The expansive countertop, cast in smooth natural concrete, brings continuity and visual calm.

Even the most minor details were carefully considered. A custom concrete panel beneath the sink maintains a perfect sense of symmetry and alignment. At this thoughtful touch, a drawer couldn’t fit, ensuring the cabinetry’s rhythm and balance remain uninterrupted. It’s these moments of design precision that define the project’s character and elevate its overall harmony.

Every material, finish, and proportion was purposely chosen to create a backyard that works as beautifully as it looks.

The cool concrete tones gently contrast with the warm wood ceiling above, while brushed stainless steel drawers and matte cabinetry maintain a crisp and cohesive aesthetic.

Together, they form a palette that’s sophisticated yet welcoming.

Whether it’s the crackle of the fire on a fall evening, a weekend barbecue in midsummer, or a spontaneous night of cocktails and laughter, this Dundas retreat is always ready for good times. It’s a space built to host and built to last.

2025 Design Trends

The Forecast

It’s that time of year to dive into the trends we are seeing in the forecast for 2025.

It’s worth noting that following trends aren’t mandatory; you should feel free to express your unique style, regardless of what’s popular. That said, we’re excited to highlight a few key trends that we and various sources believe will stand out in the months ahead.

Stay tuned as we break down these anticipated trends and how they can be interpreted to suit your personal flair!

1. More is More with Maximalism

While minimalism has dominated interior design for years, a shift is on the horizon for 2025! Designers are moving towards a fresh trend: maximalism. We’re saying goodbye to the less-is-more mindset and welcoming a vibrant, eclectic approach to our living spaces.

Though maximalism isn’t entirely new, it has made a spirited comeback with a modern twist! Today’s version invites individuals to create spaces that reflect their unique personalities and facilitate self-discovery.

This trend is all about boldness and making a statement. Imagine a mix of diverse patterns, lively colours, and pure joy.

It encourages you to uncover your authentic self and transform your surroundings into a reflection of who you truly are. The emphasis is on curating pieces that tell a story, prioritizing quality over quantity, and genuinely expressing individuality.

2. The Comfort of Colour

Embrace Earthy Tones

Ditch the cooler tones and welcome warm, inviting hues instead. Earthy shades like terracotta and olive will forge a strong connection to nature.

Pairing these colours with organic textures such as linens, ceramics, and plasters can create a cozy and welcoming vibe. Pantone has announced the colour of the year as Mocha Mousse, which closely resembles one of our concrete shades, Earth.

Delight in Dark Colours

While earthy tones take the spotlight, another bold colour trend is emerging: rich, saturated hues. Perhaps look at using forest greens, deep reds, plum purples, and navy blues.

These colours can capture a dramatic and moody atmosphere filled with depth and warmth.

Combining these vibrant shades with neutral tones can achieve a beautifully balanced look.

3. Drenched in Colour

Colour drenching is a design technique where an entire room is painted in a single hue, creating a seamless and immersive atmosphere. This approach can give the illusion of a larger space and eliminate visual interruptions, guiding the eye gracefully around the room.

Taking it further, double drenching includes a second complementary colour. This technique adds visual interest and allows for a more expressive reflection of your personal style. Double drenching enhances architectural features and establishes a bold focal point by pairing a soft neutral with a vibrant accent.

Consider incorporating texture and depth with materials like lime wash or plaster to elevate this effect. Adding various wall treatments, such as shiplap, fluting, or wainscoting, enriches the visual experience and creates an engaging environment showcasing both colours in harmony.

Colour drenching can be a fantastic way to make a bold statement and bring unity to your space!

4. Mix & Match

Transform your environment by blending an eclectic mix of materials—think metals, woods, and stone—to enhance the depth and character of any room.

Bring variety with different metals—such as brass, copper, or stainless steel—through your choice of lighting fixtures and hardware.

Small details can elevate the overall appearance of your space.

Explore the idea of repurposing furniture to give it a fresh look. The key is to blend natural elements with man-made materials, creating layers of texture and design that truly bring your vision to life.

5. Textures & Walls

Incorporating texture into your space is a fantastic way to introduce new patterns and visual intrigue without overwhelming the senses. Textures can completely transform a room’s atmosphere, making it feel dynamic and inviting.

Creating a tactile experience is crucial to enhancing a room’s ambiance. Consider options like textured wallpaper; think grass cloth, or 3D wall panels that add depth while acting as subtle focal points. Other exciting choices include plaster, Roman clay, stucco, and concrete panels!

Concrete panels stand out as an excellent way to enrich your home with texture. They bring character and can easily be tailored to fit your personal taste and style.

The idea for 2025 is to create a visual experience in a space and a tactile one, encouraging that interactive element to the design.

The Blending of Materials

Combining concrete with other materials to elevate design

Not all designs need to be fully clad in concrete to make a statement.

In fact, blending materials can often lead to more dynamic, visually interesting, and harmonious spaces. The combination of concrete with other materials, such as porcelain tiles and wood cabinetry, can elevate a design from ordinary to extraordinary.

The beauty of using concrete in design is its versatility and the way it complements a wide range of materials. Its neutral palette can be the perfect backdrop, allowing other textures and colours to stand out.

For example, the warmth of wood cabinetry against the cool, minimalist aesthetic of concrete creates a balance that is visually appealing and welcoming.

Similarly, incorporating porcelain tiles can add a touch of elegance and sophistication, making the space feel curated and intentional. Finding the right blend of colours and tones is crucial in creating a design that feels cohesive and intentional.

It’s not just about the individual materials but how they come together to tell a cohesive story. This approach encourages creativity and experimentation, pushing the boundaries of traditional design to explore new possibilities.

Incorporating concrete accents into a project, rather than fully cladding surfaces with concrete, can still capture the material’s essence without overwhelming the space. It’s about striking the right balance and using materials in a way that complements and enhances the overall design.

Whether it’s a fireplace surround, a kitchen backsplash, or a feature wall, blending materials can add depth, texture, and character to a space, making it truly stand out.

2024 Design Trends

The Forecast

It’s that time of year to dive into the trends we are seeing in the forecast for 2024.

There are 5 key design trends we want to focus on and explore! It’s important to note that while keeping up with trends can be fun, you should not feel pressured to follow them. We aim to share what we see in the industry and provide insights into what designers and architects create for their clients.

1. Warm Up to the Warm Tones

We know that trends tend to repeat themselves, and this year, we’re predicting a shift in neutral colour pallets. Cool colours have dominated the design industry in the last decade, using many greys and whites. However, this trend is changing, and warm neutrals such as beige, rust, and amber are becoming more popular in homes.

At Anthony Concrete Design, we value our concrete’s cool and warm tones and know that homeowners, designers and architects appreciate variety too. We offer a wide range of neutral concrete colours; however, since we specialize in custom products, we can manufacture colours that are tailored to your design specifications. We can modify the pigment concentrations in our mixes to create striking and unique custom colours that make a statement.

Colour Grouping

Captured above are some of the warm tones offered by ACD.

While we know most people adore their neutral colour pallets, many experts in the industry are stating that we’re about to see an increase in bright and bold colours mixed with earth tones as accent colours. Some are even seeing the monochromatic design style return full force, but it’s been renamed “colour drenching”.

People spent more time in their homes than ever before during the pandemic, and people are tired of the typical black, white, and grey colour pallets as their main focal points. We’re starting to see those colours move into accent pieces within a space, and homeowners are opting for colours that truly represent their style & charm.

When choosing a new coat of paint for your home, consider exploring beyond the usual cool greys and stark whites. With a wide range of warm neutrals and bold colours available, the choices are endless, and we hope you choose to warm up your space by opting for a warm or vibrant colour palette!

2. Organic Shapes

Curved design features in interior design have become increasingly popular in recent years. These unique design elements can add a soft and welcoming touch to any space while also creating a sense of flow and movement. One of the most common ways to incorporate curved design features into a space is through furniture. Curved sofas, armchairs, and ottomans can create a cozy and inviting seating area, while a curved desk or dining table can add a touch of elegance and sophistication to a room.

Another popular way to incorporate curved design elements is through architectural details such as archways, curved walls, and ceilings. These features can create a sense of fluidity and continuity between different areas and add visual interest and depth to a room. Curved lighting fixtures and accessories can also add a unique touch to a space.

Overall, incorporating curved design features can add a sense of softness, elegance, and fluidity to any interior space. Whether through furniture, architectural details, or accessories, these design elements can create a welcoming and visually interesting, comfortable, stylish environment.

Traditionally, sharp lines and symmetry have taken the main stage, but now we’re seeing a shift to organic forms with building materials, even those that are traditionally associated with clean-lined designs like concrete. More consumers are now seeking rounder corners, spheres, and fluted panels in both residential and commercial design despite the historic preference for sharp corners in concrete casting.

3. Natural Materials and Textures

Biophilic design is an approach to architecture and interior design that connects people with nature. It incorporates natural elements, such as plants, water, and light, into the built environment to create a more harmonious and healthy space. Biophilic design can be seen in many forms, from using natural materials like wood and stone to incorporating living walls, green roofs, and indoor gardens.

This design philosophy is based on the idea that humans have an innate connection to nature and that exposure to natural elements can positively impact our well-being. Studies have shown that biophilic design can improve productivity, reduce stress, and enhance creativity. It can also positively impact physical health by improving air quality, reducing noise pollution, and regulating temperature and humidity.

Board-formed concrete wall panels – Photography By: Neven Custom Homes

During the pandemic, people spent more time indoors, which has led to an increased demand for natural materials and textures in interior design. Our concrete cast products are unique and one-of-a-kind, much like natural materials. To meet this demand, we offer textured concrete panels that mimic the lines and knots found in wood slabs. These board-formed concrete panels are best suited for wall panel applications, such as feature walls or exterior cladding. We believe natural materials are the best choice and strive to offer products that meet this demand.

4. Outdoor Spaces Taking Priority

Homeowners are increasingly recognizing the value of their outdoor spaces, and since the pandemic, more households are renovating and improving them. Outdoor areas provide a place to relax, connect with nature, and enjoy the fresh air. Outdoor spaces can be used for entertaining guests, creating an inviting atmosphere and a place to relax and unwind.

When it comes to home design, outdoor spaces should be given the same attention and care as interior spaces. Whether you have a small balcony or a large backyard, there are endless possibilities for creating a functional and beautiful outdoor space. You can add seating, tables, countertops, and even an outdoor bar. To create a cozy and relaxing atmosphere, consider incorporating planters, water features, a fireboxe or a fireplace. There are many ways to make your outdoor space feel like an extension of your home.

5. Handmade Products

In a world of fast-paced movement and the need for convenience of goods, we’ve become accustomed to mass-produced building products that fill our local box stores. Designers and architects are now opting for authentic, handmade goods made locally when possible.

Handmade products have several advantages over mass-produced products. Handmade products are unique and one-of-a-kind, much like our custom concrete products.  Each product is crafted with care and attention to detail, making each product different from any other product in the market. This uniqueness gives handmade products an authentic, special charm that mass-produced items cannot replicate.

Did you know that handmade products are typically more environmentally friendly than mass-produced items? Why? Most mass-produced products are imported globally, so by choosing handmade goods, you’re cutting down on transportation emissions. Anthony Concrete Design sources its ingredients locally and responsibly. Additionally, because handmade products are made in small batches, there is less waste and fewer resources used in the production process, and at times when we have extra concrete, we use that “waste” to fabricate samples.

Finally, buying handmade products supports local artisans and small businesses. When you buy a handmade product, you support the artist who created it and help to keep traditional crafts alive. You are also supporting small businesses and contributing to the local economy.
