Fireplace with Distressed Concrete Panels
We had the pleasure of working with the owners of this fabulous home in Ancaster, Ontario that balances the perfect mix of industrial chic influence while integrating countrystyle farmhouse elements. Working together, we emphasized the look of their modern gas fireplace by using distressed concrete panels to complete the concrete fireplace surround.
Timeless Design With Concrete and a Modern Gas Fireplace
Concrete is an incredibly flexible and safe material to use in interior and exterior design. The results are timeless, and we found that distressed concrete fireplace panels paired perfectly with the modern and easy-to-maintain gas fireplace. Practically speaking, the non-combustible element of concrete makes the use of a gas fireplace safe and worry-free.
Considering the simplicity of designing with concrete panels, the possibilities of customizing concrete to create a look that fits your space are endless. While these homeowners chose to integrate a board-style concrete panel, large-format panels are also an option when finishing a concrete fireplace surround.
Shape and Style Concrete The Way You Like It
For this Ancaster, Ontario interior design project, we used concrete panels that can be made up to 7 feet wide and only 8” in height, offering a lot of flexibility for customization. To complete the look, we installed the flush concrete hearth that offers a seamless transition to the rest of the beautiful wood flooring.
For those that prefer a tile aesthetic, we offer extra-large format concrete tiles that can be made as large as 3 ft x 6 ft, or exactly measured and customized to your fit your fireplace surround.
Using a distressed finish means that your final aesthetic gives you more to work with than just plain concrete. With an interesting colour variation that is unique to each panel, a distressed look offers dimension in style and pairs excellently with white or wood interior finishing and is a great pair with the farmhouse elements this house offered.
For those seeking an option that provides a little more texture, we might suggest the board formed concrete option which offers a wood grain approach.
